Tech power couple’s $35M San Francisco, Ken Fulk-designed mansion back on market

Asking $35 million, 2799 Broadway is on the market again. With its return comes another chance to experience one of San Francisco’s most extravagant homes, with jaw-dropping interiors that are the work of one of San Francisco’s most celebrated interior designers.

This 11,690-square-foot, four-level mansion commands a corner lot in Pacific Heights. Its location is rarified, even in this rarified neighborhood. “The last three blocks of Broadway, also known as ‘The Gold Coast’ and ‘Billionaires’ Row,’ are home to some of the city’s most beautiful mansions,” said listing agent Deborah Svoboda of Sotheby’s International.

This property is newer than most of its fellow grand abodes, the majority of which were built in the early 1900s, which can often require tens of millions and years to renovate. “2799 Broadway, completed in 2004, is one of only a handful of recently constructed residences there,” Svoboda said. Owners of these newer mansions include tech giants Larry Ellison, David Sacks and Jensen Huang.

The owners and sellers of 2799 Broadway are tech entrepreneurs Michael and Xochi Birch, who are also the founders of the private social club The Battery. The Birches made their fortune creating Bebo, a social network based in the United Kingdom they sold for $850 million to AOL in 2008.

The Birches found a unique opportunity in this custom-built, seven-bedroom home that also features seven full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms. The towering ceilings, walnut floors, raw limestone and marble became a canvas with impressive dimensions and qualities perfect for design luminary Ken Fulk. Fulk (who also designed the interiors for The Battery) delighted in this project, no doubt in part because it was practically limitless.
