ECOSHOCK —The World Burns in Silence

Massive global fires & why we don’t talk about it… The cultural taboo against talking about global warming – George Marshall. Report on world fires and global smoke July 2014. Review of movie “Snowpiercer” by Gerri Williams. New song: Times of Trial by Alex Smith.

Lifetime environmental activist and human rights campaigner George Marshall joins us from Wales in the UK. His new book is titled “Don’t Even Think About It – Why Our Brains Are Wired To Ignore Climate Change.” That’s a fascinating ride, from the Texas Tea Party to why we lie to ourselves.

Alex reports on smoke covering most of North America. It’s not just the West burning, but Canada’s Yukon, and Siberia. Smoke covers most of the continent.

That’s bad news for even faster ice melt, as darker snow/ice attracts more solar heat. It’s a self-feeding event that could help change world weather permanently.

“Snowpiercer” is the latest action movie, that takes place 18 years after a botched attempt to save us from climate change by geoengineering. Gerri Williams reviews it.

“Time of Trial’ is yet another attempt by Alex Smith to use popular electronic music to reach out to youth on climate change. The full 5 minute version of the song is available for free download on Soundcloud.

Speakers: George Marshall, Gerri Williams, Alex Smith. Feature interview by Alex Smith. Movie review by independent radio journalist Gerri Williams, for Radio Ecoshock.
