Project Censored

The 11th Anniversary of Guantánamo

Welcome to the Morning Mix. This is the Project Censored Show on Pacifica Radio. I’m Peter Phillips. My co-host Mickey Huff is out this week. Filling in is Andy Lee Roth, associate director of Project Censored. Today we address the 11th anniversary of Guantánamo—an anniversary of “tragedy, pain, and torment” in the words of one former detainee. We’ll hear from Deepa Kumar, author of Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire; Pardiss Kebriaei (Keb-re-aye), attorney with the Center for Constitutional Rights, which continues to seek accountability for torture and arbitrary detention at Guantánamo; and Toby Blomé of Code Pink, which is co-organizing a Guantanamo vigil on the Golden Gate Bridge this Sunday. In today’s concluding segment, Sarah Van Gelder of YES! Magazine joins us to discuss nine stories that will change your world in 2013.

Show Hosts: Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips. Broadcast from Berkeley–Hard hitting News and Public Affairs with hosts Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips of Project Censored on KPFA’s morning show. The mission of Project Censored is to teach students and the public about the role of a free press in a free society and to tell the News That Didn’t Make the News and Why. Broadcasted Live on KPFA & No Lies Radio/Pacifica Radio on January 11, 2013.
