Racist misuse of conservation policy / Mutual aid in dangerous times _on Project Censored
Coming up every Tuesday and Saturday at 8 am Pacific * 11 am Eastern * 16:00 GMT
Eleanor Goldfield hosts this week’s program. Her first guest, Fiore Longo, describes how “conservation” or “eco-tourism” practices can actually work against the well-being and autonomy of indigenous peoples, in some cases even forcing them off their lands.
In the second half of the program, Jimmy Dunson explains the importance of community preparedness for the increasingly-common extreme-weather events driven by climate change.
Fiore Longo is a campaigner at Survival International, an NGO dedicated to defending the rights of tribal peoples; she also directs the organization’s offices in France and Spain. A recent article of hers, “There Can Be No Biodiversity Without Human Diversity,” can be found at www.equaltimes.org Jimmy Dunson is a writer, poet and social activist. He’s the cofounder of Mutual Aid Disaster Relief, as well as the founder and editor of Rebel Hearts Publishing.
