Take Back Pride _on Project Censored
Coming up every Tuesday and Saturday at 8 am Pacific * 11 am Eastern * 16:00 GMT
June is LGBTQ Pride Month, but what remains today of Pride’s radical roots? Eleanor Goldfield hosts this week’s show, beginning with a summary of Pride, and noting its essential links with other liberation struggles. Then Jen Deerinwater joins the program; she speaks about the complex history of gender in Native societies, pre- and post-colonization. As well, she criticizes the failure of today’s Pride celebrations to be genuinely inclusive, and observes that the same is true of various other causes, such as the abortion-rights movement.
Jen Deerinwater is a member of the Cherokee Nation, a writer and an organizer. Her web site is www.jdeerinwater.com; she is also the founding Executive Director of www.crushingcolonialism.org
