EPISODE BREAKDOWN: On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin remarks on the news that the extremist group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) had seized control of the Iraqi city of Mosul, going over the rising violence in the country which has hit a new high. Abby then calls out Chiquita, the world’s largest banana producer, for influencing US lawmakers to block a bill backed by 9/11 victims and family members, also looking over the companies sordid past of abusing workers and destabilizing Latin American countries. Abby then features an interview with journalist and filmmaker Andrew Demeter, who at 16 years old is making waves in the alternative media world, reporting on issues ranging from NSA surveillance to the dangers of GMOs. Abby then goes over the revolutionary idea of ‘Solar Roadways’ highlighting the massive potential the technology holds and the obstacles in the way of moving the idea forward. BTS wraps up the show with an interview with Bhaskar Sunkara, founding editor of the magazine Jacobin, going over the last 20 years of Mexico’s Zapatista movement, discussing the recent murder one of the group’s members, and the announcement that movement leader, Subcomandante Marcos, is stepping down.
