EPISODE BREAKDOWN: On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin reports on the killing of AP journalist Anja Niedringhaus in Afghanistan, highlighting the dangerous situations journalists put themselves in to shed light on underreported stories. Abby then remarks on the anniversary of Wikileaks publishing the infamous ‘Collateral Murder’ video, and speaks with muralist Mear One, about his recent mural depicting whistleblowers Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden & Julian Assange. Abby then speaks with Deb Van Poolen, an artist who captured moments of Chelsea Manning’s trial, discussing her art and her support for Manning’s defense. Abby then goes over five instances of misleading legislation, including bills like the Patriot Act and the Healthy Forest Initiative which do almost the opposite of what their ‘catchy titles’ imply. BTS wraps up the show with coverage of what Dick Cheney has been up to since leaving office and features an interview with comedian and host of the Moment of Clarity web series, Lee Camp, discussing a few of the more ridiculous stories in the news, including Bush’s exhibit of paintings, low wages for congressmen and the universities teaching students how to lobby congress.
