[283] Oakland’s Spy Hub, Poachers Poison Elephants with Cyanide & Push Method Breaks the Stage

breakingtheset Published on Nov 22, 2013
On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin talks about the new “Domain Awareness Center” being built in Oakland, citing concerns from activists that it’s nothing more than a surveillance hub for Oakland police that could be a blueprint for the rest of the nation. Abby then speaks with Eli Weiss, Founder and President of WildiZe about the tragic extinction of the Western Black Rhino and the despicable ivory trade that is leading poachers to kill exotic animals and take such extremes as poisoning elephant watering holes with cyanide. Abby the features performance by Push Method, a band fronted by Dusty Youree and Tavis Eaton, that infuses socio-political lyrics with hip-hop. The band performs an acoustic version of their hit song “Scars and Stripes” and is interviewed about their inspiration and activist causes. BTS wraps up the show with a tribute to President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who died 50 years ago today, by looking at his accomplishments, failures and the inconsistencies surrounding his assassination and subsequent investigation.
