The freighter had a Russian crew and was reported to be carrying $1.8 million worth of timber from Finland to Algeria. On July 28th, the hijacked freighter disappeared after last being seen in the English Channel. On August 16th, the mysterious ship was found off the coast of the Cape Verde Islands.

The Arctic Sea is the first reported case of piracy in Northern Europe in the last 100 years. It is also the first reported case of a big ship ever vanishing off the face of the earth for a couple of weeks.

According to reports, the ‘pirates’ who hijacked the vessels were from Israel’s vaunted intelligence agency, Mossad.
